Faith That Looks Forward

Faith That Looks Forward

In this sermon from Hebrews 11:1-40, we look at what faith really is and what it looks like in ordinary Christian life. Hebrews 11 is not mainly a chapter about heroic personalities or quick visible success. It is a chapter about God’s people hearing His word, trusting His promises, obeying before they possess, and continuing on even when fulfillment still seems far away.

From Noah to Abraham to Moses and beyond, this passage shows that faith is not confidence in ourselves, but confidence in the God who has spoken. It also shows that faith includes both victory and suffering, which means delay and hardship are not signs that God has failed. The chapter finally turns our eyes to God’s better provision in Christ, reminding us that we live by faith on this side of the cross and the empty tomb.

If you are weary, waiting, discouraged, or trying to follow Christ when the future feels unclear, Hebrews 11 offers deep encouragement: God is faithful, His promises are sure, and His people are called to keep going.
