A House God Builds

A House God Builds

David has a cedar house, while the ark of God remains in a tent. His desire to build a temple seems right, but God gives him a different part in the story. In 2 Samuel 7:1-17, David’s proposal becomes the occasion for God’s promise of an enduring royal house.

This sermon explores good intentions that still need to listen, service that grows from grace, and work whose fruit may extend beyond our lifetime. A child’s gift funded by the father and a newly planted tree help us consider how our contributions can matter without making us responsible for the whole future.

God’s promise leads to Jesus, the sinless Son of David who bears His people’s judgment, rises, and reigns forever. His grace offers forgiveness to guilty people, comfort amid disappointment, and freedom to take the next faithful step without trying to earn God’s welcome.

A House God Builds is part of Hudson’s Hope Chapel’s series After God’s Own Heart, prepared for Sunday, November 1, 2026.
