A Shepherd for God’s People

A Shepherd for God’s People

Who benefits from the strength we have? Beginning with Captain Arthur Rostron’s preparations to receive Titanic survivors aboard the Carpathia, this sermon explores authority directed toward the care of others.

In 2 Samuel 5:1-12, David becomes king over all Israel. God’s promise gathers the tribes, His people are entrusted to David’s care, and David recognizes that his growing kingdom exists for their sake. The passage challenges how we use influence in our homes, workplaces, and church, while reassuring those who need care themselves.

David’s kingship points forward to Jesus, the Good Shepherd who gives His life for His sheep and rises to keep them. His mercy offers forgiveness for our selfishness and security that does not depend on our usefulness. We can receive His care, serve others in concrete ways, and entrust to Him what we cannot control.

A Shepherd for God’s People is part of Hudson’s Hope Chapel’s series After God’s Own Heart, prepared for Sunday, October 25, 2026.
